Veterinary Practice Act

Due to recent changes in the "Indiana Veterinary Practice Act," your veterinarian may choose to deny your pet treatment if brought in by a member of The Dog House staff. The new legislation is designed to protect your private information and stop unauthorized individuals for accessing your pet's medical records. Unfortunately, it also jeopardizes your pet's safety.

According to IC 25-38.1-4-5.5: "Maintenance of veterinary medical records; copies; confidentiality," the veterinarian must include in the medical record "identification of any designated agent of the owner for the purpose of authorizing veterinary medical or animal health care decisions." If The Dog House is not listed among those individuals authorized to request medical treatment for your pet, your veterinarian may elect not to provide treatment.

Please enable us to seek medical treatment for your pet. Contact your vet and add The Dog House to your pet's medical record. In the event of an emergency, The Dog House will always seek medical attention for your pet, but without your signature and authorization your veterinarian may deny treatment.
